Village Carols from the Royal Hotel, Dungworth

Marvellous, clear and vivid ... buy a copy and judge for yourself.
(Musical Traditions)

For many singers the Royal Hotel is the Mecca for local carol singing near Sheffield. On the Sunday lunchtimes leading up to Christmas, there is invariably a long queue waiting for the pub to open, and once inside it is standing room only. People travel from far and near to be part of this unique feast of singing. The organist, Sue Heritage, leads the session with great commitment and skill. At its heart, it represents an oral tradition, constantly evolving, passed down from generation to generation, with roots dating back over 200 years.

Each sale includes a donation to the Children's Liver Disease Foundation.
